A Meaningful Event for World Celiac Awareness Week

On May 13, 2025, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Munzur University organized a comprehensive awareness event to highlight the importance of healthy and gluten-free living as part of World Celiac Awareness Week.

The event, held at the University Social Facilities Dining Hall, featured gluten-free appetizers thoughtfully prepared by our students, which were served to academic and administrative staff, along with invited guests, accompanied by violin and piano performances. The event attracted significant interest both on campus and across the province.

With the participation of dietitians working at various public institutions—including the Tunceli Provincial Health Directorate, the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, and the Provincial Directorate of National Education—the event gained further significance. This gathering provided a valuable platform for inter-institutional engagement and professional solidarity, fostering a shared foundation of awareness.

We were honored by the attendance of Mr. Saadettin Bingöl, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Mudanya University, and Prof. Dr. Kenan Peker, Secretary General and Rector of Mudanya University, who had the opportunity to taste the gluten-free plates meticulously prepared by our students. Students also provided one-on-one explanations regarding the dishes presented.

Additionally, presentations delivered to academic and administrative staff offered scientific insights into celiac disease, recommendations for gluten-free living, and content aimed at increasing public awareness. Through their presentations and knowledge sharing, our students significantly contributed to the event.

The program began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Ülkü Özbey, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Prof. Dr. Özbey emphasized that celiac disease is not only an individual concern but also an issue requiring broad societal awareness.

We sincerely thank all our students whose efforts made this meaningful event possible, the dietitian colleagues from participating institutions, and all stakeholders who contributed their support.

On this special day, where science, collaboration, and dedication came together, we affirm our commitment to continue working toward a healthier and more informed society.
