MIDWIFERY WEEK Within the scope of National Midwives Week (April 21-28), Munzur University Faculty of Health Sciences organized a Celebration Event themed "Midwives: A Vital Climate Solution" on April 25, 2024 at Munzur University Congress and Culture Center. The event was attended by Munzur University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mustafa Taner ŞENGÜN and Nuran CIKCIKOĞLU YILDIRIM, Faculty of Health Sciences Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Ülkü ÖZBEY, Faculty of Health Sciences Vice Deans Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nursel ALP DAL and Dr. Lecturer Ferit AK, Munzur University Faculty Deans, Tunceli Provincial Director of Trade Kayahan TOPAL, Provincial Disaster and Emergency Director Veysi KAYA, Deputy Provincial Health Director Spec. In attendance were Hakkı AKTAŞ, Ömer Faruk KAYA, Director of Meteorology for the 13th Region, Suzan YILDIZ, Director of Nursing Services at Tunceli State Hospital, Çiğdem TOĞLUK, Deputy Director of Nursing Services at Tunceli State Hospital, representatives of our province, faculty members from our university and faculty, and students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. In his opening speech, Munzur University Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mustafa Taner ŞENGÜN emphasized the importance of midwives and celebrated Midwives' Week, celebrating midwives practicing their sacred profession. In his opening speech, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Ülkü Özbey discussed the activities of the Faculty of Health Sciences from past to present, describing the profession of midwifery, which began in the Sumerian period around 4000 BC. He provided information on the factors that played a role in the transformation of midwifery and the developments in this profession to the present day. His speech, which continued with the current definition of "midwifery," addressed issues related to midwifery education and areas of responsibility in our country. Praising midwives and the midwifery profession by saying, “The best slap is the slap of the midwife, it saves life,” Mr. ÖZBEY concluded his speech with a congratulatory message for Midwives Week. Midwifery Department Deputy Head Dr. Lecturer Akgün Yeşiltepe touched on the meaning and importance of the day in his opening speech and conveyed the congratulatory message for Midwives Week. In his opening speech, Provincial Health Director Deputy Spec. Dr. Hakkı AKTAŞ touched on the services and importance of the valuable team members of healthcare services and concluded his speech with congratulatory messages for Midwives Week. The program later hosted presentations from midwife academics working at various universities in our country, including Assoc. Prof. Nazan Karahan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hafize Öztürk Can, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Doğan Yüksekol, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Songül Aktaş, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeşim AKSOY Derya, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safiye Ağapinar Şahın, Res. The event continued with congratulatory messages from Mihriban Ulucan and midwife Ebru Uçar to students of the Midwifery Department of Munzur University's Faculty of Health Sciences, emphasizing the importance of the profession, explaining the meaning and significance of the day, touching on the ICM's 2024 theme, and emphasizing the sanctity of midwifery. In the first panel of the event, Associate Professor Dr. Nursel Alp Dal, Vice Dean of Munzur University's Faculty of Health Sciences and faculty member of the Midwifery Department, delivered a presentation titled "ICM and Its Themes from Past to Present." She highlighted the definition of a midwife, the ICM and its history, vision, mission, National Midwifery Organizations, and the ICM's themes determined by the ICM from 2008 to 2024, which emphasize the importance of midwives and the midwifery profession. Later, in the second panel, Filiz Arici, midwives from Tunceli State Hospital, Perihan Gündüz, and Gülcan OGAN shared their professional experiences, moderated by Midwifery Department Instructor Aylin CAN. Through their shared experiences, they conveyed valuable messages to our students: to pursue their profession with passion, to be always willing to learn, and to respect pregnant women, their families, and their colleagues. Before the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers, a musical performance was performed by Dr. Gülsüm HOŞ, a faculty member in the Child Development Department of Munzur University's Faculty of Health Sciences, and musician Ali Haydar TUMAN.
